Closer meltdown brings Gnome of Defeat out of hiding

Well, I suppose it couldn’t last forever.

But for a while there, it sure looked like it would.

The Mets lost to the Marlins in the bottom of the ninth, with Frank Francisco coughing up two runs.

The team was down 3-0 right away when Austin Kerns set the Marlinator in action with a two-run blast after Jose Reyes already came across.

But we know these Mets come back, with an Ike Davis homer and another run in the seventh – before the now expected late big inning, adding three in the eighth.

But Ike booted a ball in the bottom of the inning, and then FrankX2 allowed a Fish comeback and then walk-off.

So, the long-dormant Gnome of Defeat is unleashed, just in time to join me in running in the Fifth Third Bank Riverbank Run on Saturday morning.
